Barkley Square Pets

The dogs of PRC are excited to announce our first Saturday Canine Cruise of 2013 - Mutts & Mimosas!

Come take a cruise on the Potomac and enjoy the spring weather and some Mimosa’s with your mutts! Barkley Square Pets has also partnered with the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria and will be on the dock making balloon animals as well offering their one of a kind Mutt Mimosa homemade treats for $1 prepared fresh right from their Pawstry Chef’s kitchen for your pups too! In addition, they will also have before and after treat bags along with designer waters for the pampered pups out on the dock before, during, and after the cruises! They will also be giving out some treats on board the boat! Please note that 50% of the profits will go directly to the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria! We look forward to seeing you all there!

Dogs ride FREE. Advance ticket purchases are strongly recommended. Dogs must be on a 6ft flat leash at all times.

The Canines Behind Our Canine Cruises

Hot diggity dog...the 2013 Canine Cruises are about to begin! And for the first time, we’ve passed the reigns over to the dogs of Potomac Riverboat Company to do all of the planning! They have been working hard all winter long to bring some fun and exciting changes to you and we’re all excited to kick the season off. But, before they do so, they practically insisted that you get to know them since they do, after all, run the show around here.

Meet the Team
Hopje Polak Hopje, which is Dutch for chocolate, is an 11 year old Chocolate Lab and daughter of our PRC founder, Willem. Hopje is the Queen of Potomac Riverboat and is a gentle and kind little lady. She is much wiser than Rio and Norm as she is older and some days we think she must think she is the only sane “person” around here! While Hopje is a part of the welcoming committee as well, she prefers to take a more laid back approach and observe the goings on from behind our big plant in the front of the office. Like Rio, she too enjoys curling up to “fit” in Norm’s little bed on occasion. This year, with Norm’s arrival, Hopje has decided to let the “boys be boys” and handle all of the Canine Cruise planning as she has taken the role as a silent President. She is confident that the boys will have a great 2013 season and is looking forward to her first year of Canine Cruise retirement.
Rio Hall Rio is a 1 year old German Shepherd and the son of our VP, Charlotte. Rio is insanely sweet and will do pretty much anything for a belly rub. He was born into the PRC team and has proved himself to be a natural leader. Because of his leadership abilities, he is our Canine Cruise Director as well as an active member with Norm on the welcoming committee. Although he is a larger dog, he seems to be put off by his own big, comfy bed and instead enjoys curling himself into a tiny ball to barely “fit” into his pal Norm’s bed, thus leaving Norm out in the cold. In Rio’s spare time, he enjoys fox hunting, herding Norm, and showing off his favorite bee toys to anyone willing to pay attention. He is also excited for his 2nd year as Canine Cruise Director and is hoping to see sparks fly with a new lady this season.
Norman James Powell Norman (“Norm”) is a 5 ½ year old Puggle and son of our Special Events Coordinator, Danielle. Norm is a legend in his own mind and is really quite bossy at times, but is also one of the sweetest guys on the block. Since joining the PRC team in November, he has quickly adapted and become a vocal member of the welcoming committee to anyone who walks by the office or comes through the door. In his spare time at work, he creepily stalks his mom, rummages through unsuspecting co-workers belongings for treats, soaks in his Vitamin D in the front windows of the office, and stays fit by running laps around the office with his German Shepherd pal, Rio. He is extremely excited for his first year as a Canine Cruise Associate and is looking forward to meeting some new friends this year!
